Abstract

El presente estudio tiene por objetivo relacionar el uso problemático del teléfono móvil con las variables sociodemográficas, de salud mental y el tiempo de uso diario en estudiantes universitarios peruanos que cursaban carreras destinadas a la salud, estudiando la muestra mediante un análisis bivariado y multivariado a fin de identificar los factores predictivos del uso problemático. Los resultados evidenciaron una alta prevalencia de uso problemático del smartphone en varones y en estudiantes con síntomas de depresión y ansiedad, especialmente en los niveles leves y moderados. El análisis multivariado mostró que los estudiantes que usaron el celular más de 8 horas diarias y presentaron síntomas de depresión y ansiedad tuvieron significativamente un mayor riesgo de desarrollar un uso problemático del celular; asimismo, una alta eficiencia percibida en el manejo del celular se asoció significativamente con dicho problema. La presente investigación se justifica por la creciente prevalencia del uso problemático de smartphones entre universitarios y su impacto potencial en la salud mental. El estudio contribuye tanto al campo de la comunicación digital como al de la psicología de la salud, al examinar las variables tecnológicas, sociodemográficas y emocionales de forma integrada. Se concluye que no solo se evidencia una problemática de salud digital entre universitarios, sino que plantean la necesidad de criterios para intervenir: tiempo de uso ?8 h, presencia de ansiedad o depresión leve a moderada entre los universitarios.
